The factory specs are 7500 for oil and 15000 for oil filter so why do 3000??

Hmm. That's interesting.
I've always changed my oil at 3K, however - I've been driving Fords, particularly V8's - so they run a little warmer. |

The thing people dont realize is that after a certain number of heat cycles oil becomes acidic. Once this happens the oil is now damaging seals and bearings in the motor, obviously this is bad. 15000 miles on an oil change is twice as far as the longest interval I'd consider. Synthetic oils do alot better job at fighting PH levels but they only hold out so long. Besides 7500 miles is the normal maintinance schedule, everyone here falls under the severe maintinance schedule, so thats the one to go by.
I'm amazed at the mis information in this thread. Under everyday driving an oil filter should not be left on a motor for more than 10000 miles, and should only be considered leaving on there for more than that is if your starting the car every morning and driving at 60 mph until nightfall at which point you dont drive it again until morning. And thats a constant 60 mph not stop and go. Pay attention to the oil filters you put on your car. Fram is absolutely the biggest piece of shit excuse for a filter I've ever seen, some of you will probably notice a reduction in lifter tick from switching to anything, which is definatly better than a fram. The anti-drainback valves leak causing low oil pressure at idle, and the filtering element is the worst in the industry, add that with crappy build quality and you get a product I'd be ashamed to even use as a paperweight.

I went and got my oil changed. $70 for a full synthetic change, and filter.
Running 1030 in it won't hurt it right? Just thicker as far as I know. She sounds louder after the oil change but I think its because it's been realllly cold out lately (30 degrees at night) and the oil just isn't warmed up. |

I would not tell this info if I did not test this myself, been testing this 3000 mile theory for about 17 years and never had any issues. I usually change my oil at 6000 if needed and oil filter at 12000 or every other oil change. Im not saying your way is not ok because it's your money but you make it sound like someones engine is going to fall off if they dont change their filter by 10000 miles.

it also depends how the driver drives... i will always change oil filter with my oil jus kuz i max out my oil anyways... i agree fram is crap! i would actually do it sooner like every 5-8k if i wasnt soo lazy... but i already know in the next 3 years ill be planning on buying another car n trading this in...10k+ is extreme but if ur gonna do it do it with Amsoil!
